Meg Laing and her Monday Class

After an unbelievable 3 decades teaching the Monday Level 3 class Meg Laing has decided to stand down from evening teaching.

Meg was one the first teachers to bring Iyengar Yoga to Edinburgh   She was given her teaching certificate by our Guruji, BKS Iyengar himself, in 1977.   Since then she has taught at Edinburgh University and at the Centre, with occasional breaks to raise her family.

Meg also became a Teacher Trainer and she and I ran teacher training courses at the Centre from 1987 until 2011. It is notable how many of her students from the Monday class, inspired by her teaching. Became teachers themselves.  Now they are teaching throughout Scotland and even further afield whilst Meg continues to do a huge amount of work behind the scenes for teacher training in the UK.

Happily for us, Meg hopes to continue teaching at the Centre, by taking part in weekly sessions with teachers, exploring ways to further our knowledge of the philosophy, practice and teaching of Yoga. She also proposes giving classes on special subjects that will be open to students as well as teachers. You may even see her in a class mentoring fellow teachers as they continue to develop their own teaching and mentoring skills.

We know students in the Monday class are going to be sad and miss her; but she will be continuing to teach at the Centre and will still be contributing to the overall well-being of our community of teachers and students alike. Meg herself firmly believes that the next generation of teachers at the Centre are ready to take over the challenges of teaching our senior students.
