Our Pose of the Month for July is Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose) which is one of the favourite poses of our teacher Lesley Johnston.
Paripurna Navasana - Boat Pose
Paripurna Navasana- a wonderful and liberating pose, which as a balance, brings stability and confidence to body, breath and mind.
As we stay in this pose, we feel how our mind declutters and we understand what Mr Iyengar often referred to as " the repose in the pose" and "effortless effort".
This asana appears on the revised Level 1 syllabus under the udara akunchana sthiti heading- which are asanas for abdominal contraction. Interestingly, this pose is also given in Geeta's timeless classic- A Gem for Women- in the 2nd month of postpartum sequences following a normal delivery!
It's effective on the intestines, good to strengthen the back muscles and gives us energy, joy and resilience as we emerge from our periods of lockdown and restricted social contact.
A pose to be fully embraced and enjoyed by all.
