Foundation Iyengar Course
This 6-week course is designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of Iyengar Yoga.
Students will receive an initial grounding for their future practice. This course will prepare you to comfortably progress to a Beginners class and you will receive two free classes at this level on completion of the course.
Continuing Beginners
These classes are ideally for students who have received a grounding in our Beginners classes, but can be suitable for new students unable to attend Beginners.
They are also for anyone who prefers to consolidate their yoga practice at this level.
A range of poses will be taught to help improve your strength and stability.
General Moderately Paced
This class is for students who are older or have health problems which affect their yoga practice. It is also suitable for people who are recovering from illness or injury, or anyone who prefers to practise at their own pace.
Poses will be taught to help you improve posture and balance and gain strength and mobility.
Introduction to Intermediate
These classes are for students who are keen to progress to Intermediate level and to begin to learn the asanas on the Level 2 syllabus. Ideally regular attendance at class for at least 3 years has been undergone so that a good grounding of the Level 1 syllabus has been learned, an understanding of the use of props, and a desire kindled to start a home practice. Sirsasana and Sarvangasana will be practised regularly together with arm and elbow balance. Padmasana will be introduced together with some of the more challenging backbends. We will also begin to study the breathwork in the asanas and move towards seated pranayama.
Beginners over 55
These classes will follow similar principles to our Beginners classes, but will be a supportive, friendly space to practice with people of a similar age.
General Class
General classes are for students who have practised Iyengar yoga for 2 years or more or on the advice of their teacher.
A wider range of asanas will be taught, including helping you to learn and develop confidence in the inverted poses Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand).
Teachers will offer variations or alternatives as appropriate for each student.
Zoom Classes
The Centre offers ‘live stream’ options for some classes which allow students to participate from home while the class is taught live at the Centre. The timetable also usually includes one or two Zoom only classes (including Restorative)
Intermediate
These classes are for experienced students with 3 years or more Iyengar yoga experience and practise at home between classes is recommended.
More demanding and complex asanas will be introduced, and pranayama (control of the breath) will be taught.
However, these classes are not about being able to do difficult asanas and variations or alternatives will be offered by the teacher
Continuing Beginners Moderately Paced
This class is for new or continuing students or student returning after a break in their yoga practice who are older or have health problems which affect their yoga practice. It is also suitable for people who are recovering from illness or injury, or anyone who prefers to practise at their own pace.
Poses will be taught to help you improve posture and balance and gain strength and mobility.
Restorative
Unwind and reconnect in our Restorative Yoga class, a sanctuary to quietly conclude your week. Work with gentle Pranayama practices, preparing you to restore and realign amidst life's challenges. In this session, you will work with harmonising breath, body, and mind. You will be guided through restorative asanas, allowing a deep release of accumulated tension. Rejuvenate, nurturing a profound connection to self, equipped with invaluable tools for resilience in the midst of life's demands. At least a year’s experience of Iyengar Yoga is required to join this class.
Beginners
These classes are for those who are new to yoga or have less than 2 years of yoga experience.
The teacher will guide you progressively through poses (asanas) to develop your strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility. This will give you a sound grounding for your future practice.
