We are also excited to share a few words from returning student Sandy Mcghie, who recently reconnected with Iyengar yoga after a break. Here’s his inspiring experience:

Return to Iyengar

"For one reason or another, mostly a busy work schedule, I hadn’t been to an Iyengar class for a few years. I’d been going to classes at other studios just whenever I could. On Monday, 29 July, I was reminded why I love Iyengar so much.

The naming of classes within the Iyengar system takes a bit of understanding, but once you examine it closely, it does make sense. On Monday, I attended a ‘Continuing Beginners Class’ taught by Andrea Kaszewski. I wanted to go back to technique and basics in my practice. Most of the ‘classes’ I had been going to were simply rattling through as many asanas as possible, and I felt I’d lost touch with yoga itself. I was well rewarded for my decision to ‘return to Iyengar’, my passion for it rekindled very nicely. A real, proper, yoga lesson!

In this class, which was the second of a series, we performed head down dog, child pose, trikanasana, and warrior 2, amongst others. Over and above the range of asanas that are taught, it’s the method and standard of teaching that makes Iyengar stand out from the crowd.

Over the coming weeks, as I attend more classes, I’ll go into more detail about the asanas and methods, but for now, I’ll sign off with a very satisfied Ommmmmmmmm!"

We are delighted to welcome back students like Sandy and to see new faces joining our community.

We look forward to seeing you on the mat!
